    Associative Notes

Like other users before I have some trouble with "Associative Notes" to fill in my text fields in drawings. I noticed that not all fields that are set in properties are displaying in the "insert fields" box. I like to display the "Display Name" and "Document Path" in my drawings but cannot find it. Any suggestions?

    Hi William,

Those two fields were not placed in the associative notes when they were created.  I've filed an enhancment to have them included so they can be used for associative notes.  The fastest way to currently do it would be to copy and paste it into a regular note.

Is it possible for users to add their own fields to the Associative Notes list?

If its isn't, can I make it a wish for a future release?

    Hi Engle,

Custom properties can be created for components or the document and then used in these associative notes.  What fields were you interested in adding?

    Re: Associative Notes

It's very hard to predict (I'm at the mercy of my clients and their drawing borders). That is why I asked if it would be possible for users to create their own associative fields by some means - then we won't have to keep bothering you!

I appreciate that this may be a difficult wish to fulfil, but it would at least give me some future-proofing.

I find the whole method of placing, creating and populating associative fields in SC very 'unsure' at the moment. The process to follow doesn't flow very well (i.e. it lacks some logic, placement of the boxes is imprecise etc.). It would be nice to have some sort of table to call up showing all used associative fields and what they are linked to. Something like that would gather the work flow into one place, make it more manageable and give the peace of mind in knowing that you've got everything hooked up.

    Hi Engle,

I was mentioning earlier that you can make custom properties and make associative notes from them.  If you right click on the properties window with the document selecteed you can add a document property.  This will be a custom property that can be changed depending on what is important to your clients.

I was asking to see if you had common ones that you think are missing from the standard list.

I agree that it can be tricky to find where all of the associative notes are.  One thing you can do that might make it easier is to save the associative notes in your drawing template.  That way when you call them up they will be in the same place every time.  I'll place your enhancement of a note editing mode or a way to align notes into development.

    Hi wph,

Associative notes for file path have been added to the next release of spaceclaim due out in late november.
